It's been awhile since I've posted on this blog. Though we've had lot's of happenings in the past few months, I wanted to make sure and post this important change of events in our life.
Last spring Matt was working for a Wind Energy Company that was a 2 hour commute Each way to work. Matt didn't seem to mind too much but he did continue to look for other opportunities. I had a feeling that spring that we would soon be moving, every time I registered the kids for activities or school for the fall I had this impression that we would not be there.
That summer, Matt was offered a position with Schlumberger (oil and gas) to manage their logistics for West Texas. This would require us to move our family to Midland, TX. Midland is 8 hrs west from Houston and is home to many large oil companies as this area produces 1/5th of the nations oil and gas.
We put our house on the market over Labor Day and Matt went on his way to Midland. We stayed back hoping our house would sell quickly. Our Realtor told us we would be having Thanksgiving together in Midland. Well, not quite Thanksgiving, but for my 35th birthday in March we were all together for good.
It was hard to leave The Woodlands. We were blessed to make some wonderful friends and enjoy many wonderful opportunities while living there. The meals, lunches, treats, and goodbye gifts were so appreciated. I didn't take a single picture of the whole moving-goodbye experience. I guess my mind was just too scattered and my emotions too tender. The teachers at school were wonderful and made my children feel very loved as they had their last day at Deretchin Elementary.
We spent our last night with my brother Chad and his family at a resort. We had a great time together. We will cherish the four plus years that we had living close to them. They are preparing to move this next week as well...They are moving to Columbus, Ohio. We are happy for them and my kids are especially hoping that they can live with them one day so they can go to Ohio State as a "Resident". Chad likes to rub it in that he will be working right across from the stadium. But, we like to rub it in that he has to shovel snow!!!
We were welcomed here with open arms and everyone we meet is in true Texas form and extremely friendly. The kids are really enjoying their new school and making new friends. They have not complained once about being here. They are thrilled to be back together with their dad. I couldn't be happier that things have worked out so well.
And of course, Matt had the boys drafted onto a baseball team even before we found a home. This has been great to have something for the boys to jump right into and to keep busy.
There are many interesting things to see in this part of the country so we are making a list and planning on exploring this part of Texas.
So if you are ever driving through all of Texas and need a stopping point, you are welcome to come and stay here with us in our little town. Bring your cheering hats, because we'll probably take you to a high school football game since that is entertainment for here.
